Power does not change a person; it merely unmasks them.
Power — true, lasting power — is the product of earned Authority, genuine Influence, and Virtue. Power without Virtue is force. Power without Influence is isolation. Power without Authority is noise.
Power is usually treated as a possession — seized, inherited or asserted — rather than as a result. In the Codex it is a structural product of three independent forces whose alignment cannot be faked for long. Position, popularity and control of resources can all exist without genuine power, because none of them is power in a stable sense.
It is the product of Authority (the standing to be followed), Influence (the reach to move attention and resources), and Virtue (the freely-granted trust that makes it durable). Power without Virtue is force; Power without Influence is isolation; Power without Authority is noise. Because the three multiply, a leader missing any one does not hold diminished power — they hold something that merely resembles it. And because Power unmasks rather than changes, it reveals which of the three a leader was truly running on.

History is full of figures at the apex of formal authority who discover that almost nothing they decide actually happens, and others far from the top who consistently shape events. The first group mistook position for power. The equation explains why the substitution fails.
Genuine Power requires Authority, Influence and Virtue together. Strip any one and what remains is force, isolation or noise — impressive in the moment, hollow under load. Power does not corrupt so much as reveal: it unmasks which factors were ever really there.
All three factors multiply, so Power collapses on its weakest. A leader with towering Authority and Influence but near-floor Virtue holds force, not power — and the equation reads it as such. Balanced 7–7–7 produces durable Power; a lopsided 9–9–2 produces something that will not survive its first real test.
Read Power as the near-final output: it becomes the numerator of Effective Power, where it must still overcome the Chaos and Administrative Impotence taxes before it can act on the world.

Force is Authority and Influence without Virtue — the ability to compel without the trust that makes it last. The equation treats force as a degraded form of power: high in the moment, self-consuming over time, because it spends down trust it cannot replace.
Because power removes the external constraints that previously shaped behaviour, revealing which of Authority, Influence and Virtue a person was genuinely operating on. It does not add a trait; it exposes the ones already there.
Almost. Power is the numerator of Effective Power (Equation 13), which adds Resources and Autonomy and then divides by Chaos and Administrative Impotence. Power is the capacity; Effective Power is what that capacity actually achieves.
